ECOWAS reinforces call for cooperation to attract investment through the Common Investment Market (ECIM)

The ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Mrs. Massandjé TOURE-LITSE, who represented Mr. Tony Elumelu, ECOWAS Director for the Private Sector, announced during the ECIM Technical Committee meeting in Abuja that Member States should strengthen regional competitiveness, develop collective recommendations, and institutionalize ECIM to improve the investment climate.

She highlighted the importance of sharing experiences, reviewing policy reforms, and addressing global challenges, including trade tensions and protectionism, by leveraging the collective strength of the region. ECOWAS has been supporting Member States in implementing the Investment Code and coordinating through the West African Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAWAS).

The event also celebrated the approaching 50th anniversary of ECOWAS (May 28, 2025) as an opportunity to strengthen economic integration. Nigeria, represented by Minister Jumoke Oduwole, reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration! The minister highlighted Nigeria’s role in ECOWAS, in the development of investment policies and in the AfCFTA, encouraging policy decisions that attract quality investments and promote sub-regional economic development.
